Streaming partners of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Propel Sports Africa, said their prospective subscribers on the NPFL streaming app will not have to pay through their noses to follow league matches, even as the kick off of the 2023/24 season is still shrouded in mystery, The PUNCH reports.
The new season was initially scheduled to start August 26 but has suffered two postponements with a new date yet to be announced by the NPFL board.
However, there seems to be progress in efforts to get coverage for the league as President of Propel Sports Africa Ed Simons revealed they are waiting for the commencement of the season.
After signing a $5m deal with the NPFL board in May, the firm also announced MTN as their exclusive broadcast telecommunications partners for the broadcast of games on mobile phones on the network.
“Nigerians will be able to watch at affordable prices. That’s the most important thing. These games will not test anybody’s pocket. We will make sure everybody can afford it. There is one game package, there are weekend packages and there will be monthly packages,” Simons said while featuring on a sports radio show on Kennis FM, which was monitored by our correspondent on Thursday.
“We are waiting for the NPFL to announce it (resumption) but we are assured the league will start next weekend with eight games live for the first time ever.”
However, NPFL boss, Gbenga Elegbeleye, told The PUNCH that the announcement would be soon.
“The decision on when to start is not on the partner. Once we conclude all our arrangements, the season will start soon,” Elegbeleye said.
