The feud between Nigerian striker Terem Moffi, and Kylian Mbappé has spilled over to social media with a large number of fans lashing out at the Paris Saint-Germain superstar following his reaction on Friday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
The squabble started after Mbappe reacted angrily at Moffi after his goal celebration in front of the home fans sparked reactions from Les Parisens.
Moffi was the star of the show following his impressive performance that inspired OGC Nice to a memorable 3-2 victory against Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes as Luis Enrique suffered his first defeat as manager of Les Parisiens.
Moffi, who has seven goals contributions in his last six games, had a hand in three on the night, scoring the first and the third, while also setting up the second.
However, it was Moffi’s high-spirited celebration after his third goal, which extended the visitors’ lead to 3-1, that triggered the confrontation.
An elated Moffi, while celebrating, removed his jersey and displayed his name to the fans, which visibly irked Mbappé.
The angry Frenchman then tried to confront the Nigerian, necessitating referee Clement Turpin’s intervention.
France media outlet, Get French Football News, posted a video of the two players during the confrontation with the caption, “Kylian Mbappé was very unhappy with Terem Moffi’s celebration of OGC Nice’s 3rd goal as they beat PSG at the Parc des Princes.”
The video, which had over two million views with almost 300 comments, had a majority of the fans aiming a dig at the Frenchman.
Amande Singh wrote, “Man is unhappy because he lost.”
Enjoying the celebration, Morphy Eddie tweeted, “Tell Mbappe to let my Ogoja bro enjoy his celebration, if he doesn’t like it then PSG should win Nice next time.”
Also taking a swipe at Mbappe, Chris Jay said, “There’s absolutely nothing wrong with this celebration. He’s just mad he got dunked on at home by this Nigerian king.”
San added, “You have to tell him that the monarchy is not in trend either. Little prince is a nickname, not a title.”
A Moroccan fan, Sami, said, “Trust me pal it’s only the beginning. Plenty of things coming to be unhappy about.”
Olawale Babatunde wrote, “What’s the tears about, man literally pulled his shirt and was shouting “come on, come on!”.”
Divyansh Bhonsle took the opportunity to tease the Frenchman over his decision to stay with PSG.
“Mbappe should have chosen Madrid but chose money and look at him now.”
ThfcPH added, “Sore loser, all of his actions the past two to three years have led to more and more people disliking him. Falls out with players and managers, terrible guy.”
“I woulda hit the Mbappe arm cross right there. Don’t celebrate goals if you can’t stand when other players do,” Garm Polo wrote.
Football News wrote, “Cry baby! Grow up and eat some humble pie! Well done Moffi.”
