Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has heaped more praise on Nigerian striker Victor Boniface after the player guided the team to a 5-1 win over Darmstadt at the BayArena on Saturday.
The striker, who has just been handed his first national team call-up, has made a flying start to his Bayer Leverkusen career with five goals and two assists in four appearances across all competitions.
Boniface scored his second Bundesliga brace for Bayer Leverkusen who maintained their perfect start to the season – and moved top of the table – after matchday 3.
The 22-year-old bagged a brace as Alonso’s side trounced Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 in a Rhine derby at Borussia Park on matchday 2.
Speaking after the game, the Liverpool legend hailed the Nigerian for his qualities, describing him as a complete player.
“Victor is not merely a proficient striker; he is a complete player,” noted the former Liverpool and Real Madrid midfielder, emphasizing the player’s versatile skill set.
“And you can see that he gets along very well with his teammates, both on and off the pitch.”
Boniface himself expressed his joy after the victory, remarking,
“We are thrilled with the win. Our synergy on the field is excellent, and if we maintain this level, we’ll continue to enjoy success together.”
Boniface will hope to increase his goal tally when Bayer Leverkusen visit second-placed Bayern Munich September 15 but before then he will team up with the Eagles as they face São Tomé and Príncipe in the final game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Sunday.
