The newly inaugurated Anambra State Beach Soccer Board held two exhibition games to promote the sport in the state.

In the first game played on Sunday at Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi playing ground, Moniepoint Beach Soccer male team defeated Moonshine Residence Beach 5-3 in the three periods of play.

While in the female categories, GP World Beach Soccer team defeated their counterparts, Overcomers Beach Soccer team 6-1.

The teams are Nnewi-based.

The thrilled fans did not regret the day as cultural troupes from three different dancing groups were present to entertained them.

The exhibition soccer served as practicals after a seminar for the players, coaches and referees at the inauguration the previous day by the national body of Beach Soccer Association in Nigeria.

Chairman of the state beach soccer association, Prof. Victor Madubuko said he was encouraged in the interest shown by the players, coaches, referees and fans to promote the sport in the state.

"The board will give its best not fail them. We are going to do more from today to take the sport to nooks and crannies of the state," he affirmed.

Media Officer of the association, Okwudili Emmanuel said what the fans had witnessed in the exhibition game was "a tip of an iceberg, the board will keep unrolling their plans as time goes on."

Tochukwu Okoye, an overwhelmed fan said " I never knew that beach soccer could be played in Anambra state, not to talk of Nnewi, a town in the state noted mostly for commercial business activities.

"This is what we are watching on televisions from the develop countries of the world.

"Behold, it is here in Nnewi. We are now having it played here. I am excited to witness this, I hope for more of it here and in Anambra," Okoye said.
