The fourth edition of the Fusion Tennis Academy coaching clinic begins on Monday (today) and ends August 20 at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan, organisers of the event have said.
Founder and CEO of the tennis academy, Fuad Quadre, said 300 children would participate in this year’s edition, adding that the aim was to catch them young and teach them modern techniques in tennis.
“More than 300 pupils will take part in this year’s clinic and through that we will be able to spot talents and see how we can follow them up,” Quadre, Nigeria’s former No.1 in the junior category, said.
Quadre, an International Tennis Federation certified coach, stressed that sports without education was incomplete.
“Even though you want to be a professional tennis player, you have to be educated and that is why we are making sure they go to school, the good ones could get scholarships into universities in the US.”
Quadre, who plies his coaching career in Dubai, UAE and elder brother of former Africa No.1 junior ranked player, Oyinlomo Quadre, added that ITF certified coaches in Nigeria, US and Europe would be on ground for the clinic to mentor the children and the junior players.
