Super Falcons star, Ashleigh Plumptre, has opened up on her next move following the exit of Nigeria from the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The versatile player departed Leicester City, where she spent the last three seasons, following the expiration of her contract at the King Power Stadium at the end of last season.
Plumptre played a key role for Leicester last season as the club finished 10th on the log to escape relegation.
The Nigerian scored her only goal of the season in Leicester City Women’s 4-0 rout of Liverpool Ladies in their Barclays Women’s Super League game in May.
She continued her impressive form at the Women’s Cup for Nigeria and almost got on the score sheet against England in the round of 16 but saw he well-taken shot hit the woodwork.
Plumptre’s impressive performance at the World Cup means it was only a matter of time before clubs come knocking for her signature.
In a recent interview with Channels Television’s Austin Okon Akpan, the 25-year-old admitted that she had found a new club but refused to give much details about her next move.
“Funnily enough my dad is my agent so he has to deal with all that sort of stuff.
“I left Leicester at the end of the season, obviously my hometown club. I enjoyed my experience there for sure and I’ll go back and say bye to everybody.
“I’ll go back in the next week or so to say bye to everybody but nothing’s been released yet about my next club.
“I wanted to not have a distraction while I was in the World Cup. I wanted my full focus on that but in the coming weeks, it will be released.
“I’m really excited I’ve chosen somewhere that has to align with who I am as a person. I have to know about what the values are of the environment and of the people I’m playing for. I can’t say yet but I’m looking forward to a new challenge.”
During her time at the King Power Stadium, Plumptre made 79 appearances for Leicester City, with whom she won the Barclays Women’s Championship title in 2021, and helped them maintain their Women’s Super League status in back-to-back seasons.
