Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has consoled the Flying Eagles after they were knocked out of the 2023 U-20 World Cup in the quarter-finals by South Korea on Sunday evening.
A goal from Seok-Hyun Choi was enough for the Taegeuk Warriors to get the better of the Flying Eagles for the second time in their history.
Ladan Bosso’s team were left broken after extra-time, having got to the quarter-final with a lot of confidence on the back of a famous 2-0 win over hosts Argentina in the last round.
Peseiro while reacting to the loss appreciated the effort of Ladan Bosso’s boys urging them to take the positive from the defeat.
“Heads up, Flying Eagles!” Peserio wrote on Twitter.
“What you have shown in this world cup makes Nigerian people proud. They fought and honoured to the end and earned a place among the top 8 teams in the World.”
Nigeria’s closest attempt at winning the U-20 World Cup was the 2-1 final loss to Argentina in 2005 and the 2-0 defeat to Portugal in the final of the 1989 edition in Saudi Arabia.
The Flying Eagles will have to wait for at least two more years to take another shot at the tournament’s title again.
