FOR THE RECORDS: A Letter to my Constituents

By Col Austin Akobundu (Rtd) on February 10, 2023

Dear Abia Central,
It is 15 days to the elections, and as the day draws nearer, it is important to weed out our minds and be fixated on what lies ahead. While I would like to dissect my vision into an understandable piece, I find it pertinent to, once again, present my manifesto to you all so that it will be fresh in your memories and you can hold me accountable to my promises.
Also, for the sake of referencing, I will break my manifesto into two (2) parts. Today, I will spell out my Five-Point People-First Agenda, and tomorrow, I will add the second part, which consists of my Constituency Projects and Empowerment Deliverable Target.
However, for now, below are my Five-Point People-First Agenda;
1. DEMOCRACY,  FREEDOM, JUSTICE, AND FAIRNESS
I aim to pursue and advance the constitutionally guaranteed rights and privileges of the people of Abia Central while resisting discrimination, marginalization, or victimization in all forms.
2.  PROSPERITY AND CITIZEN EMPOWERMENT AS DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY
I aim to ensure respect for Fiscal Federalism to guarantee the desired allocation and infrastructure development to Abia Central.
I also aim to ensure greater adherence to the Principle of Federal Character and pursue more Federal appointments for deserving Abia Central citizens in Key Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This will curb the menace of unemployment in our senatorial zone, particularly the youths of Abia Central.
I will pursue ample Federal Budgetary Allocations for greater economic empowerment for hard-working persons across Abia Central through sustained support to SME owners as well as 21st-century skill acquisition and start-up facilities for enhanced self-sufficiency in various sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, commerce, ICT, construction, and transportation.
I will provide sustained scholarship schemes and enhanced educational facilities for greater global competitiveness for the youths of Abia Central.
Most importantly, I will ensure greater access to healthcare delivery, to benefit vulnerable groups in Abia Central.
3.  BRIDGE INFRASTRUCTURAL DEFICIT ACROSS ABIA CENTRAL.
I aim to ensure the inclusion of infrastructural allocation in the federal budget and oversee the implementation of these developmental projects in all the 62 Wards and 6 LGAs of Abia Central. I will target legacy rural and urban projects in Electricity, Road, Healthcare, Education, and Agriculture.
4.  SECURITY FOR PROSPERITY
I will ensure legislation and rigorous oversight of security issues in Abia Central. I will also engage Traditional Rulers, clergymen, Community leaders, and Youth Leaders to ensure a quicker response to security issues.
5. TRANSPARENCY, ACCOUNTABILITY, AND ACCESSIBILITY
I will provide an open-door system that guarantees a development-based, people-owned, and people-driven representation in the Senate.
To enable inclusivity and participatory representation, I will consistently hold regular Town Hall meetings, briefings, and feedback in a manner that guarantees even distribution of projects and empowerment programs across our 62 wards and 6 LGAs.
Above are my five (5) point agenda and I am asking you to hold me accountable.
I have built a strong network across this nation and I will be leveraging massively on it to attract development to Abia Central.
I am qualified, capable, and competent.
As promised, tomorrow I will outline my Constituency Projects and Empowerment Deliverable Target.
This is our collective opportunity to develop our zone faster than ever, so do not let your votes go to waste.
Remember, 25th is the date, and the platform is PDP.
God bless you all.
COL. AUSTIN AKOBUNDU (rtd).
PDP ABIA CENTRAL SENATORIAL CANDIDATE.
