Flying Eagles boss, Ladan Bosso, has heaped praises on his players for sticking to the tactics against Italy, as they recorded their second win at the ongoing U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
A Salim Fago flying header and Jude Sunday’s added time strike condemned Italy to a 2-0 defeat at the Mendoza Stadium on Wednesday as the Flying Eagles avenged their 2-0 defeat to the Europeans at the 1987 edition of the competition in Chile, and also sealed a last 16 spot.
On the back of a 3-2 win over Brazil in their opening game, the Italians were favourites against Nigeria but the Flying Eagles matched the Europeans in a different manner from their first match against the Dominican Republic.
“You have seen it, it’s a good thing that we have orientated our boys on how to get the Italians, and we stuck to our tactics. After the first half, we tried to reinforce the team so that if we could not score, we shouldn’t be able to concede, and eventually, it went for us. So that is a good thing that the boys are working according to the tactics, and the praise goes to Almighty Allah that we have gotten the victories.” he said.
Nigeria will travel to face Brazil at the La Plata on Saturday, and Bosso also hinted about rotating his squad.
“For now, it is certain that we have qualified from our group with six points, and those players who have not played in the first two matches, I think we have to give them a chance to showcase themselves, we would play a normal game with Brazil, and I think they are beatable,” he said.
