Boboye coy on NPFL jobs

By Daily Sports Nigeria on May 15, 2023

Former Akwa United and Plateau United coach, Kennedy Boboye, says he is still undecided about taking a job in the Nigeria Professional Football League after bagging a UEFA coaching license from the Irish Football Association.

After recently working with the Nigeria U-23 team, the ex-international embarked on the challenge to upgrade his coaching skills with a UEFA C certificate.

Boboye has two NPFL titles to his name, leading Plateau United to the title in 2017 and Akwa United in 2021.

While relishing his experience in Belfast, he also talked about his next coaching move in Nigeria’s topflight.

“I am happy to have been here. It was one of the best career decisions I have made. Hopefully, I will return for my UEFA B license before this year runs out.

“I have learnt a big deal here and you will see the changes in my next job.

“As it stands, I have about four NPFL teams who are keen on getting my service.

“So, when I return to the country soon, I will consider the options before I know my next destination.”

Still unattached to any team, the 45-year-old took this step of ‘upgrading’ himself in a bid to get ‘better’ and also to put him on track to land his dream job.

UEFA C is a coaching qualification designed for tacticians looking to improve their skills and develop their players. Aside from that, it is also a pre-requisite for those wishing to enroll in the UEFA B Licence.

Ultimately, coaching the Super Eagles is the former Nigeria youth international’s biggest ambition.

“I have won the NPFL twice but my ultimate goal as a coach is to handle the Nigeria senior national team and help them to win laurels.

“One of my targets is to be one of the greatest coaches in Nigeria and Africa.”

Following his retirement from active football after spells at Fortuna Dusseldorf, KFC Uerdingen 05 and Manning Rangers, the former Nigeria youth international went into administration.

After stints at Sunshine Queens, Sunshine Stars and Abia Warriors, he helped Plateau United win the NPFL in 2017 before replacing John Obuh at Akwa United after handling Remo Stars before then.
