Head coach of Remo Stars, Daniel Ogunmodede, is still optimistic his team can finish in the Top 3 as the regular season of the 2022/23 abridged Nigeria Professional Football League season gradually winds down, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Remo Stars were held 1-1 by Group A table toppers, Bendel Insurance, on Sunday, leaving the Sky Blue Stars in fifth position with four games to go.
It’s the third consecutive draw for the Ikenne side, who started the second stanza strongly by winning their first two games.
After the game, Ogunmodede rued missed chances for his team’s inability to return to winning ways.
“We were very unlucky, we created a lot of chances but maybe the boys were anxious, maybe due to the revenge of the first leg. So, I think that created a lot of anxiety. Our game plan worked out but it’s not the result we wanted.”
He was, however, positive about the possibility of picking a Super 6 playoff spot in the tough group, which also has Akwa United and Plateau United in contention.
“I don’t feel too good about the result, but I just need to pick up the pieces to help my players continue to go strong. It’s three consecutive draws, but don’t forget that we have not lost in the second round as well. We are now thinking about the next game, to go to Aba and get the three points there, it’s possible. On our chances, I will say most likely, we will keep fighting till the end,” he said.
The remaining four games ahead of Remo Stars makes their qualification an uphill task.
Remo won the first leg of their clash against Enyimba 1-0 at home on match-day five and they will be wary of the Elephants resurgence ahead of their meeting in Aba next Sunday.
After that game, Remo have more potential deciders against Akwa United at home, before travelling to face Plateau United in Jos and then Kwara United at home for their last game of the regular season.
