  • Napoli identify Boniface as Osimhen replacement

According to media reports on Belgian portal Nieuwsblad Serie A leaders Napoli are reportedly considering signing Union Saint-Gilloise striker Victor Boniface as a potential replacement for compatriot Victor Osimhen who has been on the radar of top clubs in Europe.

Apart from the fact that both players were born in Lagos, they also share some similarities.

The 22-year-old Nigerian forward joined the Belgian side last summer from Bodo/Glimt in a deal worth around €2m, a price that looks like a bargain in hindsight considering his explosive work this season.

Boniface has hit the ground running with Union Saint-Gilloise,

and has scored 19 goals with eight assists in 43 appearances for Saint-Gilloise in all competitions in the 2022/23 season.

Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad reports that Napoli have been closely scouting Boniface this season and have been impressed with what they have seen and are interested in making a move in the summer.

“After Milan and Napoli, who have already seen him several times, Lazio also like the Union Saint-Gilloise striker. The Biancocelesti are interested in the striker born in 2000, who has a contract until 2026 with the Belgian club and a price of around €10m.

Saint-Gilloise values the former Bodø/Glimt at around €10m, making a deal accessible for the interested Italian sides.

The ex-Real Sapphire youth player has been outstanding and is the joint second joint scorer in this season’s UEFA Europa League with five goals, one goal behind Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.
