Nigeria: As The Storm Gathers Again

By Victor Enyinnaya on March 27, 2023

Obviously, it is no normal time for Nigeria, whether those drumming and dancing naked in the public would admit such or not, the hen is home to roost. Nigeria is currently on her edge we pray nothing funny should happen. Note that this columnist is not a prophet not to talk of that of doom or real.

The above is spurred by the dangerous sign of this time, clearly written and only those who are deceitful would tell you that nothing is happening. That after all say and done everything will settle and normalcy returns. Most of Nigeria’s so called statesmen are in dangerous silence, the kind which is not golden. These men cannot sit on the fence as that is no solution to the teething problem.  They have decided to choose the deaf and dumb status which obviously means watching a time bomb.

They may wake up one day to their dismay to see Nigeria which they are sitting tight to milk on, is no more. In their very eyes it would dawn on them since some of them who should be saying something succeeded in supporting illegality. They want be in the good book of some sections of the country, in an obvious injustice against a part and parcel of the same country. These unnecessary intrigues and comedies by certain political leader and his paid thugs ravaging some states in the country and nothing concrete is being said points to the fact that the country is on her way to ruins if care is not taken.

Let me make some exception amongst the former heads of States, ranked traditional rulers, other eminent statesmen silence on the current goings on in the country leaves danger hanging on the neck of the country.

I am not a fan of former President Olusegun Obasanjo but he has been outstanding in the “live and let live” beacon in the country. It must be revealed here that the five star General is a later day repentant justice for Ndigbo in Nigeria. One must not fail to acknowledge here the age old saying that it is better late than never. Obasanjo as elder statesman has done much for the unity of this country, even though some people may argue that he was one of those who spoilt it.

His new day advocate for an Igbo President of Nigeria after many years of that bitter civil war, occasioned by this same injustice against Ndigbo which is even more renewed presently to few people like Obasanjo, is more precarious and a time bomb of even no mean dimension if not drastically addressed. According to him, it is more significant and Nigeria cannot afford such distraction.

Let me say that all these statesmanship by the Otta farmer, has been misinterpreted by the foot soldiers of a certain political leader in the South West and he has been called unprintable names.

The world remains witness of how Ndigbo was molested in Lagos State before, during and after the allocation of votes which INEC and APC called elections. Nobody seems to be saying anything towards that direction to address the callous and barbaric attitude exhibited by some APC members with their thugs in their quest to clinch power. After all, they say, there is nothing Ndigbo can do, even after the February 25 mandate of their eminent son, Peter Obi was stolen by the ruling party. Yet some their cohorts and illiterate and wrong notion supporters want to feel at home, after murdering sleep thinking that all will be well in the land.

Again, they have long boasted that they are in charge of the Courts in the country and nothing anybody can do about it. As if that was not enough, Chief Judge of Nigeria Ariwoola allegedly sneaked away and held meeting in London with Senator Bola Tinubu of APC. These are the pitfalls that would impact negatively on pending petitions before the Presidential election Tribunal.

It is not hidden that Senator Bola Tinubu of APC as a rootless political schemer has started his usual way of doing his politics.  Both the CJN and Tinubu’s camp have since denied it however, fact is that there is truth to the meeting between both. This same APC that now runs Ariwoola, just recently called for the resignation or sack of the CJN when he made some remarks at the commissioning of judicial projects in Rivers State last year, it is now clear that it was meant to coarse the Judicial head.

The same APC members ambushed the CJN faraway London spare headed by its Presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, obviously discussing that the judgment from the Supreme Court be tilted in his favour.   As Nigeria broods the intimidation against Ndigbo in parts of Lagos State persists, let truth be told, these people are acting strictly on the instruction from their principal. Upon obvious disruption of votes in many parts of Lagos, the troubled State was said to have held hitch free polls by both the State Police Commissioner and Resident Electoral Commissioner, Agbaje.

APC fully collaborated with INEC and security agents especially the Nigeria Police that allegedly helped to manipulate election process. They served as cover and helped in no small measure for the rigging of the election in 2023. This scenario repeats every election circle and they taught the old order must remain. These and other sharp practices were the ugly sides of this year’s polls which must be stopped forthwith.

As I have said these while, this year’s elections are better imagined than described. It was one exercise that was planned and sealed from the Presidency through INEC and APC. Protests are still ongoing in States like Nasarawa, Ogun, Kaduna State etc, yet both Mahammadu Buhari and Mahamood Yakubu of INEC are not forthcoming to give concrete answers or explanations on these spots where votes did not count but allocated.

Nigeria is an irony, a country where laws of the land hold no water.  Nigeria operates like a jungle and her present leaders behave same.  These shameless Nigerian corrupt leaders have cover from the Britain, USA, France and sundry otherwise, they would have sat up by now.  A country where most of her leaders are lairs calls for great concern by objective commentators.  Where are we heading to with this flawed 2023 election that ranked side by side with 2007 elections?  Mahammadu Buhari who promised the whole world that he would conduct an enviable election posted abysmal election despite acquiring supposedly modern day equipment for the project while he appointed artisan individuals were into electoral umpire.

One wonders why APC which brought hell upon Nigerians would win free, fair and credible election. It is only in the land of jungle that such arrant nonsense can rear its ugly head. The impunity in this country by INEC is of larger proportion. Nigeria is now laughing stock before the international community.

We will keep shouting to high heavens pointing out the mess that was the 2023 election. Keep shooting hard till next week. Meanwhile we wait!!
