Ademola Lookman, will be hoping to put an end to his four league games goals drought for Atalanta when they welcome Udinese to the Gewiss Stadium on Saturday (today) in a Serie A fixture.
The 25-year-old Nigeria international has been impressive for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side scoring 12 goals and has contributed five assists in 23 league matches this season so far but has failed to score in his last four games.
His last strike was for La Dea was in their 2-0 win over Sampdoria in January.
The former Leicester City forward is the Atalanta’s highest goal scorer and he is ranked third in Serie A’s scoring chat behind Victor Osimhen and Lautaro Martinez.
A timid display at San Siro last weekend saw Gian Piero Gasperini’s men beaten 2-0 by their Lombardy neighbours, and a run of four defeats from five in all competitions has cast a shadow over their hopes of returning to the Champions League next term.
Having averaged 2.7 goals per game at the start of 2023, La Dea have now scored only once in their last two fixtures, so Gasperini will be keen for his previously productive strike partnership of Lookman and Rasmus Hojlund to get back among the goals in the encounter.
With 41 points from 24 games, Atalanta are sixth in the standings, four points off the top four.
Gasperini’s men head into the weekend unbeaten in 11 games against the visitors and will look to continue in the same vein.
Meanwhile, his countryman, Isaac Success is expected to make his 25th Serie A appearance for Udinese in the encounter.
The Nigerian striker is still without a goal this term. Also wing-back Kingsley Ehizibue will miss the encounter as he is serving a one-match ban for accumulated bookings.
