Osimhen Remains My Rival— Lookman

By Daily Sports Nigeria on February 12, 2023

2017 U20 world champion Ademola Lookman will put aside his friendship with 2015 U17 World Cup winner with the Golden Eaglets, Victor Osimhen to one side when he steps out on to the pitch in the current season, with both strikers competing for the Italian Serie A top scorer award.

In the race for the Paolo Rossi Award, Lookman is in second place for now having mustered 12 goals in 20 games for Atalanta, while Osimhen leads the way with 16 goals in 17 matches for table toppers Napoli.

Lookman and Osimhen are teammates in the national team but opponents in the Serie A and are now fighting for the Paolo Rossi Award.

The Charlton Athletic academy product has suggested that he would like to end the season as the top scorer in the division, though without being obsessed about it, and also spoke about his rivalry with Osimhen.

“I have a goal in my head, but I don’t let it influence me: in reality I prefer to think game by game, one game at a time,” Lookman said to L’Eco di Bergamo, via gonfialarete.

“I’ve never thought about records: I want to keep working to improve myself, then we’ll see where I’m at in the end.”

On the Napolli number 9, he said : “Osimhen is my rival in the scoring chart: I really don’t know who will be ahead at the end.

“But I know him well and I can say that he is an incredible player, a top player, with exceptional characteristics: after all, anyone who sees him realizes the champion that he is”.

Lookman and Osimhen both found the net in Atalanta’s 2-1 loss to Napoli in November.
