The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Abia Central Senatorial District, Col Austin Akobundu (Rtd) has unveiled his Actionable Five-Point Campaign Manifesto tagged "PEOPLE-FIRST AGENDA".
Speaking at a Press Conference and Official Unveiling of his Campaign Manifesto held at Sacramento Event Centre, Umuahia, The retired Colonel said his People-First Agenda derives its strength from the wishes, aspirations and manifest will of the people of Abia Central Senatorial District in their quest for a quality representation at the National Assembly.
According to the immediate past National Organizing Secretary of the PDP, his candidature on the platform of the PDP embodies the wider hope and aspiration of the people of Abia Central adding that it is a collective pursuit by the people for quality representation irrespective of age, sectional, political differences and religious sentiments.
*He enumerated his Five-Point People-First Agenda to include:*
1. Democracy, Freedom, Quality Representation, Justice and Fairness
2. Prosperity and Citizenship Empowerment as Dividends of Democracy
3. Bridge Infrastructure Deficit Across Abia Central
4. Security for Prosperity
5. Transparency, Accountability, Accessibility.
The PDP Abia Central Senatorial candidate assured the public that if elected, he will also ensure the following:
* Yearly empowerment of not less than 1,500 of his constituents especially the youths in various personal vocations, trades, and businesses
* Facilitate the construction of modern, well-equipped vocational and Skill Acquisition Centres in the six Local Government Areas of Abia Central
* Facilitate phased rehabilitation or construction and equipping of cottage hospitals and community health centres across the senatorial district
* Provide scholarship and bursaries for not less than 1,000 Abia Central pupils and students in various levels of education.
* Facilitate yearly rehabilitation and upgrade of many feeder roads in various communities in the senatorial district
* Facilitate rapid electrification including provision of transformers and solar power for communities in the senatorial district, among many others explaining that he is committed to making Abia Central the leading Senatorial District in Nigeria in terms of quality representation that reflects in constituency infrastructural development, economic empowerment and shared prosperity of constituents, peaceful coexistence and happiness for all.
Responding to some of the questions posed by the Media, the articulate Senator opined that he has divided his plans into 3 categories of
- Quick Achievable
- Intermediate Achievables
- Long term Achievable
He hinted that his first year in office will see him address the 'quick achievables'.
