Iwobi Injured, Doubtful For Rest Of The Season

By Daily Sports Nigeria on January 7, 2023

Alex Iwobi look set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he was stretchered off the pitch during Everton’s FA Cup clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford after suffering a horror ankle injury.

The Red Devils recorded a 3-1 win over the Toffees to advance to the fourth round of the competition.

Ex-Arsenal ace Iwobi, 26, rolled his ankle following a nasty challenge by Tyrell Malacia in the 47th minute. The Toffees midfielder put his hands over his face as he left the field looking visibly emotional and in pain.

Everton skipper Seamus Coleman immediately called for doctors to tend to the midfielder.

“Alex Iwobi has just gone over on his ankle and the ankle has gone inside,”Alan Stubbs said on BBC Radio Merseyside.

“I’m hoping he hasn’t done his ankle ligaments because it looks like that. “The momentum of the challenge from Malacia has rocked his ankle. It’ll either be one where he has jarred it and is fine to carry on or he won’t be able to continue and could be out for a few weeks.” After being attended to on the field, Iwobi was replaced by Abdoulaye Doucoure, and he received a standing ovation from the traveling Evertonian fans.
