Events heralding the fourth yearly Government College Ughelli Intercollegiate Invitational Athletics Competition (GCU) Relays have commenced with a media parley held at the National Secretariat of the GCUOBA, Yaba, Lagos.
At the media session in Lagos, GCUOBA President General Worldwide, Arc. Charles Majoroh, reiterated the cardinal objectives of the Relays, the products of the previous editions and the future of the games, while emphasising the need for stricter code of conduct, high level of discipline and zero tolerance for unidentified (non-bonafide) student athletes.
Also, present at the press parley were the Secretary General, Roy Odoko, Chairman LOC, Ejiro Omonode and National Publicity Secretary, Obed Awowede.
Majoroh, who confirmed the arrival of co-GCU Relays Ambassador, Ruks Bazunu from the United States, espoused their virtues and the roles they are expected to play at the Games.
“GCU Relays Ambassadors, Ojukwu and Bazunu, have key roles to play at the Meet,” he began. “Only last week, Ojukwu was at the College where he joined the training session of the GCU Team.
“This year’s edition will be fun-filled, higher performances levels and lasting memories for the school athletes.
“We shall commence with the pre event and arrival cocktail, followed by the evening of Special Dinner, Wine and Music to be concluded on the Final Day with the Burn – Fire,” Majoroh disclosed.
GCU Relays co-Ambassador, Bazunu promised the best male and female athletes a surprise package, just as they benefitted from previous year’s scholarship awards.
Over 60 schools from across Nigeria and 500 athletes will participate at this year’s edition scheduled for November 19 at the School grounds.
