Kebbi State Governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, has approved the release of N60 million to Kebbi State United to facilitate their promotion to Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
In a statement signed by Kebbi State FA Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ladan, the money will aid the club’s push for success in the 2022/2023 season.
Ladan described the early release of the fund as part of Bagudu administration’s sustained youth empowerment programmes and the promotion of sporting activities in the state.
The FA boss also disclosed that Governor Bagudu has approved another N143.5 million for one year operation of Kebbi State United Football Academy.
He said the governor mandated that the fund should be used to cater for U-13, U-15, U-17, U-19 and U-23 categories of the Academy, in collaboration with Break Management Agency of Portugal, which has been empowered by the government to serve as a management consultant.
The academy, which was established in 2021, will help to build Kebbi State indigenes into national and international stars.
He said that within one year of the establishment of the academy, 12 Kebbi United players of Kebbi United and some from the academy have been invited for trials in Europe and Middle East.
One of the players, Sulaiman Garba Kirki Jega, he added, is currently with the National U-23 Team (Olympic Eagles).
