Relegation Not Leicester’s Portion- Iheanacho

By Daily Sports Nigeria on September 17, 2022

Super Eagles’ striker, Kelechi Iheanacho has backed himself and his Leicester teammates to escape relegation despite witnessing a poor beginning in the ongoing Premier League season.

The Foxes have lost five times in six games this season already and are rooted to the bottom of the league table.

The Nigeria international in an interview with LCFC TV said he believes the club can recover soon. He said they train well and have great players but the results have not been impressive.

Injuries to key players and the loss of top defender, Wesley Fofana and goalkeeper, Kasper Schmeichel has threatened Leicester’s balance this season. Iheanacho, however, believes it’s not all doom yet.

The former Man City forward scored a goal in the 5-2 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion and is also looking forward to making an impact in Leicester’s difficult trip to London against Tottenham.

“It (a win) would be massive – so, so massive for the Club and for everyone involved,” he said. “A win would give us the momentum to go forward this season. We need to defend as a team, attack as a team and just work hard as a team.

We have been preparing very, very hard for this and hopefully it turns around this weekend. Training has been going quite well. The message has always been that we stick together whether we lose or win but right now we need to show character, hunger and desire.

“As players and as a team we know we can get the results we need, we showed that last season. So far this season, it’s just turned out the other way. We have great quality in this team, so we just need to believe in ourselves and get the points to get us back up there this season.

“We haven’t started well this season but I think we have been playing well,” the Nigeria international added. “Every game, the outcome has not been good, but we need to stick together, we need to show character and we need to represent the Club and represent our families.

“We are not in good momentum at the moment but we do have a great quality in our team and we just have to stick together to come back. There are still a lot of games left but we just need to start winning games now. We’re working really hard in training, so the wins will come.”
