Fury, Joshua Talks ‘On Hold’

By Daily Sports Nigeria on September 12, 2022

Tyson Fury’s promoter, Frank Warren has revealed that talks over a blockbuster British heavyweight clash between the Gypsy King and Anthony Joshua are now on hold “out of respect for the Royal Family” following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Warren and Fury had sent a written offer to Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn after AJ accepted a challenge from his rival on social media. “Yo @anthonyjoshua what you saying big G let’s give the fanz what they want as Usyk is b****ing??? I got the date and venue who will rule Britannia?” Fury tweeted on Monday.

“Yea calm,” Joshua replied. “I don’t do the online discussions just for clout, so if you’re really about it shout @258mgt. I’ll be ready in December. Khalas”.

However, negotiations for the fight have now been postponed, with Warren revealing they will resume talks next week. Speaking on talkSPORT, Warren said: “Tyson and I, we just don’t feel it’s appropriate at the moment out of respect for the Royal Family.”

Earlier this week, Warren added of the planned bout: “It’s us who have made the approach to give AJ a great opportunity to get himself back into the top level against the world champion Tyson. He’s willing to make that voluntary defence, so we’ll send the offer across today and then they’ll have to look at it and decide whether they want to grab this with both hands.

“The terms that we are going to put forward I think are very, very fair. We’ll put it into writing and then they can make their decision.

“We’re talking about being very, very fair. Tyson is being extremely fair and if and when these come out, if they want to publicise them, you’ll all be shocked.

“It’s perfect timing I think for AJ to accept it. For him to get himself back into a position either mandatory or to challenge for a world title is going to take him a lot of time, so he should grab this with both hands in my opinion.

“But to his credit he has come out saying that he’s up for it. I’m not bad-mouthing them or the other side, all we’re interested in doing is making this fight.”
