'Devastated' Tuchel bids farewell to Chelsea

By Daily Sports Nigeria on September 12, 2022

Thomas Tuchel said he is "devastated" to no longer be in charge at Chelsea as he penned an emotional farewell to the club.

Tuchel was sacked by Chelsea's new chairman and part-owner Todd Boehly last week and replaced by Graham Potter.

The German, who guided Chelsea to their second ever Champions League trophy, says the memories he has made at Stamford Bridge "will always have a special place in my heart".

"This is one of the most difficult statements I have ever had to write - and it is one which I hoped I would not need to do for many years," wrote Tuchel in a post on Twitter. "I am devastated that my time at Chelsea has come to an end.

"This is a club where I felt at home, both professionally and personally. Thank you so much to all the staff, the players and the supporters for making me feel very welcome from the start.

"The pride and joy I felt at helping the team to win the Champions League and the Club World Cup will stay with me forever."

Potter earlier explained his decision to takeover at Chelsea to Brighton fans as he wrote a farwell letter of his own.

"I hope that you will understand that at this stage of my career, I felt I had to grasp a new opportunity," he said.
