Amusan eyes another victory in Zurich on Thursday

Nigeria’s biggest athlete of the moment, Tobilola Amusan, believes she is in prime position to continue her winning streak in Zurich on Thursday.

The World and Commonwealth Games 100m hurdles champion and record holder says she is looking forward to recreating the scenario that fetched her the historic Diamond League trophy in Zurich, last year, when she returns to the Letzigrund Stadium.

Amusan made history as the first Nigerian athlete to win a Diamond League discipline when she stormed home first in a then 12.42 seconds African record at the final in Zurich.

The event led to a chain of firsts for the Nigerian, thereafter, as she became the first from her country to win a world title, the first to set a world record, the first to successfully defend a Commonwealth Games title, and of course, the first to set a Games record in the high hurdles.

The Nigerian was in action at the ISTAF Berlin meeting on Sunday and won the race in 12.45 seconds.

The petite reigning Nigeria, African, Commonwealth and World 100m hurdles champion took to her Facebook page after the event to express her gratitude to God for winning for the third straight visit to Berlin.

She also hopes to successfully defend her Diamond League trophy in Zurich at the Diamond League final.

Amusan wrote: “Glory to God for today (Sunday’s) victory at the ISTAF Berlin meet. Clocked 12.45s, which was the identical time I ran last weekend (Aug 26) to finish second at the Lausanne Diamond League.

“Next stop is the Diamond League final later this week. Same stadium my winning spree began last year when I became the first Nigerian to win a Diamond League Trophy.

“I look forward to that moment once again. Your will be done, oh Lord.”
