Facts have continued to emerge on how the Super Eagles was booted out of this year’s World Cup to be held in Qatar come November.
The most prominent being how Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) imposed players on the coaches’ in the second leg played in Abuja which led to the instant dropping of five players that played in the first leg in Ghana. It was so tense as the D-day drew.
A usual credible source within the backroom staff of the team told Daily Sports in confidence that the technical crew visibly complained bitterly the day before the match and same hours before the ill-fated double header second leg.
“It was terrible during the build up. If you like confusion everywhere. The day the issue of dropping five players that featured in the first leg. It brought the camp into silence. Truth is that Eguaveon did not buy into the idea but allowed the will of the NFF and her friend to prevail. It was terrible experience to behold as there was always shouting arguments between Eguaveon and the NFF,” it was learnt.
According to the reliable source, the bubble burst as the nation’s chances of advancing became dim when the NFF emphatically left a standing and tall order that aside five players from the first leg game being dropped names of five players including Emmanuel Dennis. The outright altering of the line up that played Ghana in Baba Yara Stadium that worked so hard to get 0-0 in that high tension game.
However, when told that former Super Eagles Chief Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke has put a lie on the interference by the NFF, the insider source quickly countered ‘Amuneke did what he is supposed to say in this circumstance. He will not say otherwise. He still has future with the NFF. He cannot come out public to say these but deep down him, he knew what transpired that led to the ouster of Nigeria in the World Cup which draws was held last week.
“I don’t if you have read a report that quoted Amuneke as saying Dennis was did not do well in the game. Let’s leave that sad chapter and see if any lesson has been learnt,” the backroom staff signed off.
