Former Enyimba striker Iwuala Anayo is determined to correct what he sees as one anomaly of his game right now in Tunisia, which is not scoring goals for his club Esperance in the Tunisian league.
Anayo, who joined Esperance in August 2021, has so far scored one goal for Esperance, which came in Tunisian Super League Final, but he is yet to get a goal in seven league appearances.
The high work-rate, blistering pace and general on-pitch high energy of Anayo are qualities that are already shinning through at his new club and being appreciated by coaches and fans of Esperance. However, as Esperance prepare to host Hamman Sousse on saturday in the resuming Tunisian league, Anayo says he is working to put a gloss on his peformances by scoring goals.
" I've not been satisfied with myself so far. I need to score goals for Esperance to justify my being brought here. Its something I'm working hard on,my composure in front of goal and my finishing," Anayo says.
Asked if he has found the Tunisian league defences harder to break than the Nigerian proffesional league clubs back lines, Anayo said: "Yes. The Tunisian league is tough. It is very tactical and teamsare very solidly organised at the back. But I'm going to get it right and start putting away the kind of chances I've missed recently".
22-year old Anayo has been capped by five times by the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles.
In 2016 he was highest goal scorer for grassroots club Benin Warriors in the Edo state league with 10 goals in 5 matches.•PHOTO: Anayo
