Enyimba Pip Akwa, Remo Remain Unbeaten

By Daily Sports on January 27, 2022

Enyimba on Wednesday returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over struggling Akwa United in their week eight fixture in the Nigeria Professional Football League, while newcomers Remo Stars extended their unbeaten run to eight in their goalless draw against Enugu Rangers.

Tosin Omoyele put the People’s Elephant in front in the 27th minute after a well worked goal from the eight-time champions, which proved to be the game decider.

The victory is Enyimba’s fourth of the season, with the win seeing them move fourth on the league table, while Akwa United drop to ninth position, with their third loss.

At the FC IfeanyiUbah Stadium in Nnewi, Rangers failed to score despite having nine shots on target as Remo Stars’ fairytale start to the season continued.

The Sky Blue Stars were not at their best, recording just one shot on target during the entire duration of the game, but will be grateful for the shared points. The result means they’ve moved level on points with Rivers United but the latter are top of the table with a superior goals difference.

At the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, Ebenezer Odeyemi scored a 97th minute goal to hand Shooting Stars a 2-1 win over Kwara United.

Alao Danbani had given the visitors the lead in the 61st minute while Ayo Adejubu grabbed the equaliser in the 79th minute, before Odeyemi’s winner, which threw the packed stadium into wild jubilations.

The game was stopped in the 70th minute for a minute to pay respect to 3SC’s former General Manager Rasheed Balogun, who passed away last Thursday. (Punch)
