The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has not formally signed on Coach Viktor Jose Peseiro, a Portuguese technical hand purportedly hired to head the Super Eagles coaching crew, Daily Sports can now authoritatively reveal.
Our usual dependable sources within the high command of the country’s football governing house confided in www.dailysportsng.com that his papers were still pending and would be attended to in a future date.
It was further gathered that after the kite about Jose Peseiro employment was flown last year and many reports that dug into his past works as coach in many countries were revealed to the public domain, the characters that were privy to his coming quickly met and decided to keep him on hold till after the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations football summit in Cameroon.
However, while the supremo of the football house, Amaju Pinnick, is undaunted about the past performances of the Portuguese, his other partners were said to, at least, have advised him on the need to look carefully this time before this man would be finally imported into the country.
Daily Sports also learnt that a particular top official of this government has intervened, pointing out need to hire a grade A technical hand for the nation’s flagship team in order to fully harness the potentials of the Super Eagles; which my source quoted the top government official as asserting that such expectation was totally eroded during the regime of Gernot Rohr.
Daily Sports can further reveal that Federal Government’s attention has been drawn to the hiring of the Portuguese by the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare, who has been angling for a competent indigenous hand to handle the team which was promptly turned down by NFF executive committee led by its President.
We were again told that since the interim coach, Austin Eguaveon is showing some good measure of steadiness with his boys since the tournament began and also his strong showing in the group, thumbs are already up for him as the championship gets underway.
“We are keenly monitoring, watching Eguaveon and if he continues this showing, we will know what to do next. The ex-international is gradually bringing out the best in the boys and we have seen greater understanding and coordination amongst them (boys).
“The team as we saw in the last two games against Egypt and Sudan was more of an attacking team, unlike the past when Rohr was in charge. It showed new direction for the team. We pray a new dawn will be born. We are impressed so far and pray that and that God gives Eguaveon the courage to continue and holds thick and bring back those typical ideals of the Nigerian side.
“Super Eagles are known for some strong points in the past before Rohr came and scattered everything which continued to show steady decline of the once-upon-a-time one of the high flying strong national teams in the continent,” the insider sources added.
Meanwhile, few executive committee members of the NFF that have claimed being marginalised told Daily Sports in confidence that they were poised to join forces to ensure the best for the country’s flagship squad.
