Arsenal are eyeing a potential January move for Nottingham Forest’s on-loan Djed Spence.
Italian giants Roma and Inter Milan are also watching developments closely as the 21-year-old has caught the eye with his recent performances.
Arsenal were alerted by Spence - who is on loan from Middlesbrough - after his starring performance in Forest’s FA Cup win over the Gunners last Sunday.
Gunners legend Ian Wright branded his performance as “unbelievable” as the highly-rated right back shone against Arsenal and played a major part in Forest causing one of the shocks of the third round.
Spence would be valued around the £10m mark by Middlesbrough and any deal would have to be done on a loan back basis because he has already played for his parent club this season and could not play for a third different team.
But Arsenal are looking to strengthen their right back slot with Hector Bellerin - currently on loan to Real Betis - almost certain to go in the summer.
Arsenal’s current first choice is Takehiro Tomiyasu and he has shone since his move to the Emirates in the summer.
But they are looking to strengthen their squad in all departments and a young English prospect would fit the bill perfectly.
Spence was allowed to leave Boro on loan because he did not fit into former boss Neil Warnock’s plans but now he is excelling at Forest and is really grabbing attention because of the Championship club’s FA Cup run.
There is a growing expectation that something might happen in this window and, even if any deal is effectively on hold until the summer, clubs have identified him as a talent and do not want to miss out. (Mirror)
