Striker Sikiru Olatunbosun has expressed excitement at scoring two goals against visiting Nassarawa United at the Agege Stadium on Wednesday evening. Olatunbosun believes that with this victory, the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) will get better and stronger as the NPFL season goes on.
Speaking with Daily Sports after his brace secured MFM FC a 2-0 win over Nassarawa, Olatunbosun said: “I feel excited getting the two goals of the match, and it is a good thing we start the second half of the season with a victory.”
Speaking on the next fixture against Rivers United in Port Harcourt, the striker, who has already scored six goals this season, insisted that MFM FC “is going either for a win or a draw, by God’s grace.”
In similar vein, the head coach of MFM FC, Fidelis Ilechukwu, believed that “we tried our best, even though the boys got tired at the end of the match, and this is one area we really need to work on, if we really want to get points in away games.” Ilechukwu further believes that MFM FC “will be stronger as the season progresses, with the inclusion of new players to the team”
MFM FC had defeated Nassarawa United 2-0 with both goals coming from Sikiru Olatunbosun, in the 18th and 30th minute of the match.
A one-minute silence was observed in Lagos (and all NPFL centers across the country) for the late Super Eagles legend, Stephen Keshi, who died early yesterday.
In Umuahia, Abia Warriors came from behind to draw 1-1 against Ikorodu United to claim 9th place on the league table. Oluwole Balogun opened scoring for the Lagos-based club side, before Michael Olaha scored the equaliser on 75 minutes. Abia Warriors had a goal ruled offside on 55 minutes, to the dismay of their fans.
In Uyo, it was a six-goal thriller between Akwa United and Sunshine Stars, as the game ended 3-3. Sunshine's Okiki Afolabi scored the opener, after getting a poor backpass from Godspower Igudia to score from a distance, after 17 minutes. Aniekan Ekpe however curled in a free kick to level scores in Uyo at the 22nd minute. On 38 minutes, Akwa United took the lead with Ubong Friday’s cross being headed down by Michael Ikpe, before Fortune Omoniwari jabbed home. It got worse for the Akure side on 61 minutes, when Friday Ubong of Akwa United scored, controlling with his right, lifting over his marker, before volleying home.
A header from Okiki Afolabi gave Sunshine Stars a little hope on 70 minutes to make it 3-2, before Dele Oloundare scored on 90 minutes to make it 3-3.
