Rangers International FC of Enugu on Tuesday thrashed Cynosure FC of Abakaliki 5-1 in the ongoing Ifeanyi Ekwueme Tico/Select Football Tournament in Enugu.
The match, which was played at the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC) pitch, saw Chidiebere Nwobodo put in Rangers’ first goal in the 3rd minute.
Ossy Martin made it two before Nwobodo pulled another three goals in quick succession at the 28th, 31st and 35th minute, respectively, bringing scores to 5-0 at the interval.
Cynosure FC came back after the interval looking more purposeful.
Their effort paid off at the 54th minute, when Femi Famuyiwa pulled one to reduce the scoreline to 5-1.
Speaking after the match, Cynosure FC coach, Festus Allen, blamed the team’s embarrassing loss on “lots of errors”.
“We have a good team but the players did not start the match well. They gave Rangers a lot of space,” Alin said.
Rangers Coach Abdu Maikaba commended the effort of his players for the massive win.
“We win big and that was what I have been expecting from the players and my aim is to pick up to seven points from three matches.
“With seven points from three matches, we are almost qualified from the group, while we use the last match of the group to seal our qualification.
“We are taking the matches, one game after another, and now we have four points from two matches it shows we are progressing well,” Maikaba said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the tournament is taking place in two states, with Group A matches being played at UNEC.
