Solomon Yola, the head coach of Kano Pillars, who were declared winners of the 2021 Prudent Energy Handball Premier league, on Wednesday, in Abuja, has said that the team would return home to start preparing for the African Championship.
“We came very well prepared for this year’s league and our target was to lift the trophy and God answered our prayers,” he said.
Yola told journalists that the team’s next target was to succeed at the African championships, while thanking God for the victory and success in this year’s league.
“The date for the championship has not been fixed, but, as a team, we will continue to work hard to represent the country at the African Championship.
”We are waiting for the Federation to tell us about the Africa Championship. We will start preparation immediately for the championship.
“We will work hard to make sure we give a good representation for the country,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kano Pillars and Safety Babes, respectively, won the male and female categories of the 2021 Prudent Energy Handball Premier League.
To emerge winners, Kano Pillars hauled 29 points from the 11 games they played, winning nine and losing two games, while Safety Babes, in the female category, scored 25 points from their nine matches out of which they won eight and lost one.
In the female category, Adorable Angels finished second with 23 points, having won seven and lost two of their matches, while Imo Grasshoppers finished third with 23 points, from seven wins and losing two.
NAN reports that a total of 21 teams, comprising 10 female and 11 male teams, participated in the 14-day premier league, which ended on Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola National stadium, Abuja. (NAN)
