Victor Osimhen will not be in action when Napoli take on Legia Warsaw on Thursday in the Europa League as he continues his recovery from injury.
The Europa League Group C clash comes up at the Stadion Wojska Polskiego, in Warsaw.
Osimhen picked up a calf injury in training on Saturday and subsequently missed Napoli’s 1-0 away win at Serie A bottom club Salernitana.
The in-form Nigerian striker was back at the club’s training ground on Tuesday but, according to Italian sports daily Corriere dello Sport, will not be available for Thursday’s visit of Napoli to the Polish capital for the Europa League clash against Group C leaders Legia Warsaw.
Legia Warsaw sit top of the group which also contains England’s Leicester City and Spartak Moscow of Russia with six points from three matches. Napoli are second with four points and ahead of Leicester City but only on goal difference. Spartak are bottom of the table with three points.
Osimhen was among the scorers when Napoli defeated Legia 3-0 on October 21.
His absence is sure to be felt by fans of the team who have become accustomed to the Nigerian’s all-action style and high work rate.
Instead, the former Lille and Wolfsburg attacker will be working with the medical team of the Serie A leaders to be fit for Sunday’s clash against Verona.
Verona currently occupy the 8th spot in the Serie A table with 15 points after 11 matches, 16 points behind the table-topping Napoli. Only three of the Rossoblus’ 15-point haul have come on the road though and Napoli, who have been invincible at home this season, winning all five of their games at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, will be looking to have Osimhen back in action as they look to stave off the challenge from second-place AC Milan.
The 22-year-old Osimhen has scored nine goals in 12 appearances across all competitions for Luciano Spalleti’s side this season. (The Guardian/AgencyReports)
