Members of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, yesterday urged the NFF warring parties led by Amaju Pinnick and Chris Giwa to reach a compromise so as to end a lingering leadership crisis that has rocked the country’s football for the past two years.
Both factions appeared before the Committee yesterday, in a major move towards ending the crisis soon.
The Deputy Chairman of the committee, Anoya Nnebe, said after a closed door meeting with the two NFF factions led by Chris Giwa and Amaju Pinnick that the committee was optimistic that the factions would cooperate with it in finding a lasting solution to the lingering crisis in the country’s football governing body.
The lawmakers who have vowed to find a lasting solution to the festering crisis, did not allow other parties to enter the meeting venue, as only Giwa and Amaju, were the ones allowed to ventilate their thoughts on the matter. At the end of the session Giwa said he was happy with the meeting and saluted the patriotism of the lawmakers to intervene in the matter of common interest to all Nigerians.
After over close to three hours of meeting the both parties came out smiling with Ambassador Giwa, saying he was excited at the intervention of House of Reps members adding that the meeting was very fruitful.
“We had a very fruitful meeting on the way forward and as I will always say we must try and mend fences and I think that is the way we are looking at the matter. The media will be duely informed of developments in the coming days as another meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday next week,” he declared.
Giwa further alluded to the fact that he was not a desperado for the job of the NFF President but merely want to enforce his fundamental human rights as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. “God’s willing, we shall get to our Eldorado in football in this country.”
On his part, Pinnick also said that the meeting was also fruitful, and declared that as a law abiding citizen of the country, he will continue to adhere to the rule of law. Both parties meet with the lawmakers again on Tuesday next week.
