Arteta Claims Aubameyang Finally Understands Arsenal Role

By Daily Sports on October 28, 2021

Arsenal FC manager Mikel Arteta believes that Gabon captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has taken “a step forward” in his role at the English giants.

The lanky forward has been in good scoring form having hit the back of the net four times in his last six matches in the Premier League this season.

Arteta feels that it is a signal that his captain has turned the page after a difficult campaign last term as the 32-year-old netted just 10 goals from 29 league matches for the Gunners.

“I have never seen Auba transmit what he is doing now,” Arteta said on Independent.

“Apart from the goals, the celebration when they put the ball in the net, do you see the way he runs? The purpose he has to press the ball, and […] how is leading the game. I prefer this Auba. For me, it is a click.”

The Spanish tactician praised Aubameyang and his strike partner Alexandre Lacazette, who has scored twice in his last five matches across all competitions for the Gunners.

“It is a combination that realising that his role has to go well beyond [what is was]. He had to take a step forward. I would say the same with Laca,” he added.

“They lead by example and not only there but as well at the training ground.”

Aubameyang has scored four times in eight matches in the Premier League and he will be hoping to add to his tally when Arsenal take on Leicester City on Saturday. (African Football)
