CAF Champions League: Rivers United Not Scared Of Al Hilal, Says Eguma

Rivers United Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, has declared that the team is not afraid of their second round opponents in the CAF Champions League, Al Hilal of Sudan.

Rivers United will host the Sudanese team at the Adokiye Aimiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt, on Sunday.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, Eguma said Rivers United would be 100 per cent focused, while being mindful that complacency could jeopardise their chances of winning the tie.

“We are ready for the CAF Champions League game against Al Hilal.

“Being a North African team and experienced in the continental game, we expect a tough game from Al Hilal. But Rivers United players will not relent on giving their best in the game,” he said.

Eguma lamented that absence of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), which, he said, would have given Rivers United the platform to prepare adequately, adding, however, “we have done enough to win the game.”

On the recent appointment of former Enyimba coach, Fatai Osho, as the team’s chief coach in place of the departed Ndubuisi Nduka, Eguma said there will not be any clash of duties.

He added: “Fatai Osho has been appointed as the chief coach of the team, while I am now the technical adviser.

“We will both work together to build a credible team. Two good heads are better than one.”

Meanwhile, Confederation of African Football (CAF) has permitted Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to admit only 10, 560 spectators to watch the Rivers United encounter with Al Hilal in Port Harcourt.

The approval from CAF was communicated to the NFF in a letter dated October 11, 2021.

According to Rivers United, the game holds at the Adokiye Aimiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa, Rivers State, by 4.00 p.m. on Sunday. (The Guardian)
