Nigerian attacker David Okereke has claimed that he scored his wonder solo goal for Venezia this past weekend because he had no other choice.
The 24-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Club Brugge, netted the decisive goal in Venezia’s 2-1 away win over Empoli this past weekend.
His strike in the 68th minute came after a superb dribble from inside his own half and has been compared to George Weah’s legendary goal for AC Milan against Verona in 1996.
Okereke insists he was not thinking of the 1995 World Player of the Year when he made his way towards the Empoli goal; rather his solo effort was because he had no teammate near enough to pass to.
“The action (for the goal) I did it all by myself because there was no one there,” he is quoted by Calcio Mercato.
“I’m very happy with how it ended. In training camp, it helped us being together by creating the group.”
