The 43-year-old former centre forward striker in the Super Eagles told newsmen that the current national team had been playing well, technically-speaking.
The veteran footballer who retired from active footballing on Jan. 1, 2011 was in Ekiti State to participate in the Southwestern Veteran Football Competition held at Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti.
“The Super Eagles have performed tactically well so far in the on-going World Cup qualifier.
“The team beat their opponents, Liberia and Cape Verde in two laudable outings.
“We hope the national team will win more of their matches to clinch their ticket to feature at the world tourney,’’ Agali said.
The next world football fiesta is scheduled to hold in Qatar from Nov. 21 to Dec. 18, 2022.
Agali, who captained the Lagos State All-Stars International at the Ekiti competition, expressed happiness for playing against some other veterans.
He described all participants as winners, saying they had all won one time or the other.
“This game is more of `keep fit’ and an avenue to reunite with my colleagues, some of whom I saw last more than four years ago,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Ondo State All-Stars won the Southwest Veteran Football Competition with a lone goal against their Oyo State opponents.
The winner will represent the Southwest Zone at the national competition in Abuja later in the year.
The Ondo State veteran team was coached by Ade Gbangba who expressed joy for clinching the ticket in the zone.
NAN also reports that four All-Stars teams representing Lagos, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti States battled for the only ticket in the zone.
Commenting on the event, the duo of Oluremi Oluwole, Chairman Local Organising Committee, and the Chairman, Ekiti Sports Council, Olusola Osetoba, expressed happiness for the opportunity given to Ekiti State to host the competition. (NAN)
