Senegal-born manager Patrick Vieira has explained an area of the game Wilfried Zaha must work on ahead of the new English Premier League season.
The Ivory Coast international was very influential for Crystal Palace as they claimed a 3-1 win over fellow Premier League club Watford in a pre-season friendly match over the weekend.
Zaha grabbed a brace for his team as the Eagles wrapped up their preparations for the 2021/22 campaign with a victory.
However, Palace manager Vieira, who is a former France and Arsenal FC midfielder, is concerned about the skillful winger not tracking back to help other players defend when the team is under pressure.
“We know his strength and know he’s capable of scoring goals, creating goals,” Vieira told the club’s official website.
“There’s the other part of the game he needs to work on and concentrate is work without the ball. How can we be a little more compact?
“How can he defend better with the rest of the players? But his work ethic has been really good since I’m in this football club. Scoring goals: we know that he is capable of doing it.”
Zaha, who can play as a forward or as a winger, usually on the left where he can cut inside with his right foot, is one of the most dangerous attackers in the Premier League.
The 28-year-old player, who is a former Manchester United player, has scored 68 goals in 393 matches across all competitions for Palace.
