Nigeria international Maduka Okoye has signed a new long-term deal with his Dutch club, Sparta Rotterdam.
The promising goalkeeper has sealed a contract that will keep him at the Eredivisie club until 2025.
Okoye joined Rotterdam on a free transfer from German club Fortuna Dusseldorf last year and he has established himself as Sparta’s first-choice keeper.
The 21-year-old is pleased to have extended his stay at the six-time Dutch champions.
“When I signed with Sparta, I did so with clear goals. I wanted to develop further and become the first goalkeeper in the Eredivisie and for the Super Eagles,” Okoye told the club’s website.
“So after the first season I can’t help but be satisfied, but I’m certainly not done here yet. I really enjoy my time at Sparta and I feel appreciated by my teammates and the supporters.
“In my first year, I have already experienced many beautiful moments here, I hope that next season, at a full Castle, we will add even more moments.”
Okoye was born in Dusseldorf to a Nigerian father and a German mother and he started his career in 2012 with Bayer Leverkusen, turning up for their youth team.
The gifted shot-stopper made his international debut for Nigeria as a substitute in a friendly match against Brazil ending 1-1 on 13 October 2019.
