#To maintain respectable position in NPFL
Chief Coach of Nigeria’s CAF Champions League representatives, Paul Aigbogun, has said his side, Enyimba International FC of Aba, is not under any form of pressure in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Speaking exclusively to Daily Sports (www.dailysportsng.com) in Lagos, Aigbogun said: “As you can see, we play our normal style and what matters is the end justifying the means.”
Aigbogun maintained that no team can intimidate his side as the two-time CAF Champions League winners are always mindful of whatever antics their opponents may come up with and prepare for such whether during home or away matches. He added that when the league enters the crunchy stages, that is when the boys would be separated from the men.
“We don’t take chances in any game,” he said. “Our experience on the scene has made it to dawn on us that every game is as important. We also thank God for the crop of players in our line-up this season. It has not been easy chasing glory in Africa and also ensuring that our position in the domestic league is perfectly enviable. The side has the capacity. It is our belief that with diligence, courage, zeal, focus and determination, nothing would be left to chance.”
On whether it will be possible for his team to retain the league title, Aigbogun said that the game is still open. His words: “We are already in the group stages of CAF Champions League; you know our target in that particular assignment. And on the NPFL, we are the defending champions; nothing is impossible. I believe Enyimba have the big war chest. Their resilient spirit is not questionable. You are aware that any team playing us comes out smoking; the reason being that the People’s Elephant is now a spectacle. What I am saying is that retaining the crown is still within reach.
“The team has rich tradition. Many teams in the NPFL want to pattern their set-up taking Enyimba example. If you should know me you will quite agree that I don’t predict, rather I channel such energy into restrategising, building and making the team a force to be reckoned with. We will continue to do our exploits being anchored on God’s promises.
“Let me use this opportunity to thank the teeming fans of Enyimba nationwide for their conduct even during extremely provocative circumstances. Such maturity has given the team and her officials a great sense of responsibility and motivates us to work harder to serve them better. I also thank the management for being there. The team will strive not to disappoint.”
