Harmony Secondary School Lokoja, Kogi State, qualified for the semi-finals of the confluence conference at the ongoing 18th edition of Nestle Milo Secondary School Basketball Championship in Lokoja in grand style.
Kogi Girls were too strong for students of Government Girls Unity College Damaturu, as they thrashed the Yobe girls 32 points to 03.
After the one-sided game, captain of Kogi, Obatoyinbo Bidemi: said: “I’m happy we made it to the semi-finals; this is our first time in the championship and we lived up to expectation.”
In the second match of the quarter-finals, Government Secondary School Numan, Adamawa, looked very promising with a convincing 33 points to 03 victory against Girls High School Gindiri, Plateau State. In another quarter-final game, Government Secondary School Jogona, Kano, defeated Yagai Academy Jalingo, Taraba State, by 11-09 points.
In the last quarter-final fixture, it was a drab game between Bauchi and Jigawa which ended 6-0 in favour of the Bauchi girls.
Meanwhile, Special Adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello on Education, Dr Tolorunleke Sunday, speaking after the match said: “I am affirmative that Nestle Nigeria PLC has carved a niche for itself in the development of sports in Nigeria particularly, the development of basketball.”
While expressing satisfaction recorded so far by the state contingents at the championships, Dr Sunday is of the belief that the Kogi State representatives will go all the way to win the conference, just as he appreciated Governor Bello for his timely intervention for the state to host the Championships with the provision of necessary logistics.
