NPFL: Akwa Utd Reclaim Top Spot As Kano Pillars Hold Plateau

By Daily Trust on May 31, 2021

Akwa United defeated Kwara United 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Sunday in one of the week fourteen games of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) games that went down in various centres.

The Promise Keepers hit the bulls eyes first in the 38th minutes through Ubong Friday and pressed forward for more goals but the first half ended thus.

On resumption, the visitors, Kwara United, pushed for equalizer but it was the home team that doubled their lead as Nasiru Jibril netted in the 69th minute to make it two goals for the former CAF Confederation Cup campaigners.

Kwara United pulled one back in the 80th minute through Wasiu Alalade and all efforts from both teams to score ended fruitless as the match ended thus.

In the results of other matches played, the Oriental derby between FC IfeanyiUbah and Rangers International ended in barren draw. In Makurdi, Lobi Stars defeated Sunshine Stars 2-1 while MFM, playing at Agege Stadium, piped Dakkada FC from Uyo 1-0.

In Lafia, Nsarawa United compounded the woes of relegation-threatened Adamawa United, beating them 1-0 while Plateau United played out a goalless draw against the former league leaders, Kano Pillars at the Rwan Pam Stadium in Jos.

In Katsina, the home side, Katsina United, defeated Warri Wolves 1-0, even as another Oriental Derby between Enyimba International and Heartland of Owerri could not produce a goal after full time. (Daily Independent)
