The Assistant Coach of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Football Club (MFM FC), Ali Suleiman Obinna, has expressed disappointment over his team’s inability to get the three points at stake yesterday evening against Enyimba FC of Aba at the Agege Stadium, Lagos. He had hoped for victory for the Olukoya Boys against the People’s Elephant, but that hope was dashed.
According to him, “We are disappointed that the three points did not come to us. We had expected that the game will turn out in our favour, but it did not turn out that way, as we settled for a draw. However, we are hopeful for our match against Niger Tornadoes.”
A major highlight of the match was the red card after a second yellow card showed to Nzube Anaezemba, who dived unnecessarily in MFM’s penalty box at 75 minutes. He had received his first yellow on 14 minutes, after handling the ball on the pitch.
The game would have had a different score line had it not been for the heroics of goalkeepers Theophilus Afelohhai of Enyimba and Folarin Abayomi of MFM FC. Afelohhai did the greater job, as he saved deadly shots from Sikiru Olatunbosun and Stephen Odey. He eventually won the man-of-the-match award. Leonard Ugochukwu of Enyimba also had his shot crash to the woodwork on 30 minutes, leaving the score line at 0-0. He had a brilliant display at different aspects of the match.
At the other center in Lagos, Ikorodu United missed the chance to beat Plateau United, as they gave up their lead twice, to draw 2-2. Ojukwu Ifegwu had given the Oga boys the lead on 35 minutes from a penalty, before Junior Salmon got the equaliser, rising up above everyone else to convert a corner kick past goalkeeper Fatunwase. Kabiru Balogun gave Ikorodu the lead again on 63 minutes, but another goalkeeping error cost Ikorodu the victory, as Ibeh tip-toed the goalkeeper to equalise for Plateau United.
Giwa FC abandoned their match against Akwa United yet again. It is likely the League Management Company sanctions the club, or completely eliminates them totally from the NPFL, because of their recent actions in abandoning matches.
After Match day 16, Rangers International of Enugu and Rivers United sit on top of the NPFL table as joint-leaders with 28 points after 16 league matches, Kano Pillars stay at third position with 27 points after 15 matches (pending their match against El Kanemi Warriors on Thursday).
