NFF On The Hunt For Friendly Opponents

By Daily sports on May 11, 2021

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly seeking strong opposition to prepare the national team for the delayed start of the group phase of the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers.

According to The Guardian, the NFF is negotiating with Senegal, Cameroon and Ghana – amongst others – as possible friendly opponents for the Super Eagles.

NFF media director Ademola Olajire explained that no concrete agreement has yet been reached, but the Federation is working hard to ensure strong opponents are secured.

“Contacts are being made and work is ongoing in that respect, but I have no authority to announce anything until agreements are sealed,” said Olajire.

Nigeria, along with all other nations which reached the group stage, were set to begin the path to Qatar 2022 with two matches in the international window next month, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has since taken the decision to delay the qualifiers to September due to ongoing effects of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nigeria find themselves in Group C of the competition, where they will face Cape Verde, Central African Republic and Liberia. Only the winners of each group advance into the final playoff round. (African Football)
