Simy Nwankwo has played down his own personal achievements amid Crotone’s continued struggles in Serie A.
Lo Squalo Calabrese are set to be relegated from Italy’s top-flight this season despite Nwankwo’s incredible scoring form.
The Super Eagles forward scored a brace in a rare win over Parma last weekend which did little for their hopes of survival. With five games to go in the 2020-21 season, Crotone sit bottom of the league standings and 13 points from safety.
Nwankwo has scored 19 goals in 33 matches this season, including 12 in his last nine matches but Crotone have only managed two wins during that period.
The 28-year-old subsequently became the highest scoring Nigerian in the Italian Serie A with 29 goals in 77 matches, but that means little to him at this point in time.
“Reaching such goals in a very difficult championship like the Italian one is nice, but I can’t be 100% happy,” Nwankwo told SkySports Italia.
“The team counts. We are struggling and I can’t be happy.” (African Football)
