Red-hot Serie A star Nwankwo Names Kanu As Idol

By Daily sports on April 10, 2021

Nigeria international Simeon ‘Simy’ Nwankwo has named Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu as his idol.

The 28-year-old marksman has been scoring goals for fun in the Italian Serie A for FC Crotone lately having netted eight goals in his last five matches.

Nwankwo praised Nigeria legend Nwankwo Kanu, who enjoyed a successful playing career in Europe winning the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup, English Premier League, FA Cup and Dutch Eredivisie.

“Kanu, my old idol. He has won wherever he has played. Ajax [Amsterdam], Arsenal, Inter [Milan] and Portsmouth. For me Kanu is everything: it is my point of reference, my inspiration,” Nwankwo told Tuttomercatoweb.com.

“After the illness he had – when he was at Inter – and which he overcame, he returned to win with Arsenal and it is a special thing.”

Nwankwo has netted 15 goals from 29 matches in Serie A, but his club, Crotone find themselves in the relegation zone as they are placed 20th on the standings.

The lanky player, who netted 20 goals in Serie B last season, responded to reports linking him with several Serie A clubs including Genoa.

“It’s not something that interests me, I’m a Crotone player and I’m very proud of that,” the Lagos-born player added.

“I’ve been here for five years, from the first moment I felt at home and I can’t think of anything else. I have a contract with Crotone, I am calm and I am very happy to be part of this club.”
