Egypt Eye Mohamed Salah For 2021 Olympic Games

By Daily sports on March 21, 2021

Egypt national under-23 team head coach Shawky Gharib says he is eyeing Mohamed Salah ahead of the 2021 Olympic Games.

The 62-year-old tactician has disclosed that he will send an official letter to Salah’s English club Liverpool FC to get their approval regarding the superstar’s participation in the Olympics.

When speaking on King Fut, Gharib explained that the letter will be sent to Liverpool once they discover their group, which will be next month when the draw for the tournament takes place.

“The rules of the Olympic football competition stipulate that any player who was not included in the preliminary list could not participate, and therefore we put Salah’s name on the initial list,” Gharib said.

“Salah is very valuable in Egypt and outside of Egypt. He’s the top scorer of the English Premier League and one of the best players in the world. It doesn’t make sense to aim for an Olympic medal and not try to include a player like him in your team.

“We are preparing a file regarding Salah’s participation before contacting Liverpool, officially. The file will contain the details of the draw, the group that includes the Pharaohs and the place where the national team will reside,” he added.

“After the draw we will complete the file and then contact Liverpool immediately,” he concluded.

The Olympic Games which have been delayed by the coronavirus pandemic will take place from 23 July-8 August in Tokyo, Japan.

While the new 2021/22 Premier League season set to start in early August and Salah would miss pre-season with Liverpool. (African Football)
