The Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation (NPWF) on Tuesday said over 20 wrestlers would participate in the forthcoming Mock Wrestling Championship slated for Saturday in Lagos.
Chief John Uche, the NPWF President, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Uche said the championship scheduled to hold at the National Stadium, Surulere, would serve as a pre-tournament for its forthcoming National championship slated for May.
“While waiting for the Presidential pro wrestling Fight Against Corruption tagged: BATTLEGROUND 2021, we have come up with this mock championship to engage wrestlers.
“Pro wrestling fans also need to have a tip of the iceberg and that have necessitated this event.
“This will serve as pre-event show for the officials and wrestlers to get themselves prepared for the big fight coming up in May.
“So, over 20 wrestlers will be in action for the mock championship on Saturday,” he said.
The President, who noted that the country was endowed with talents in the sport, added that participants would compete in different belt categories at the event.
He said that adequate measure had been put in place to ensure strict adherence to the COVID-19 guidelines.
