West Ham are set to sign England midfielder Jesse Lingard on loan from Manchester United until the end of the season.
Lingard, 28, has been told a move away from Old Trafford will be sanctioned given his lack of first-team action.
A deal between the clubs has been agreed in principle, subject to completion of contract.
Any deal would require West Ham to sign either Said Benrahma or Craig Dawson on a permanent basis.
That is because Premier League rules only permit clubs to have a maximum of two domestic loan signings within their squad.
Winger Benrahma moved to London Stadium on loan from Championship side Brentford in October, in an agreement that obliged the Hammers to make the transfer permanent at the end of this season.
Defender Dawson also arrived on loan in October, from Watford.
West Ham manager David Moyes took Lingard on tour in 2013 during his only summer as United boss.
The midfielder scored the first goal of Moyes' nine-month spell in charge, during a game against the A-League All Stars in Sydney.
Lingard has only played in three matches this season – two in the Carabao Cup and in Manchester United’s win over Watford in the third round of the FA Cup. (BBC)
