Several senior players are happy to see the back of Frank Lampard at Chelsea, it has been revealed.
The Athletic reports players felt that Lampard’s criticism in his final weeks in charge of the club was reminiscent to the stinging assessments of former boss Jose Mourinho when he was in charge at Stamford Bridge. The Blues parted ways with Lampard on Monday morning.
The 42-year-old was only in charge at Chelsea for 18 months but the former midfielder, the club's all-time top goalscorer, leaves after just two wins in their last eight Premier League games, having lost five times in that spell.
Chelsea’s struggles in the league have seen them slip to ninth, 11 points adrift of leaders Manchester United after 19 matches, despite having spent £220million in the summer.
One unnamed player at Chelsea feels that it would have been a “catastrophe” if Lampard was to remain in charge for the full season.
It is said there were tensions in the dressing room between some players and the manager and that Lampard’s criticism went down badly with some. (Tribal Football)
